Jakarta (ANTARA) - The professional men's tennis tournament AMMAN International Tennis Championship is being organized once again in Indonesia after the COVID-19 pandemic upended activities and life for two years.

The championship, included in the official competition calendar of the International Tennis Federation's (ITF's) Men's World Tennis, will be held in two series for a period of two weeks at the Sultan Hotel, here, on August 7-21, 2022.

"Some 18 countries have registered, and the matches will be of high quality," Chairman of the Indonesian Tennis Association's Central Management (PP Pelti) Rildo Ananda Anwar noted in a press conference here on Saturday.

This is Indonesia's opportunity to be able to receive wildcard and experience in competing in an international tournament, he stated.

The AMMAN International Tennis Championship provides a total prize of US$15 thousand, or around Rp225 million, for each series.

This event is an entry-level professional tournament that will be beneficial for the host country's tennis to rack up international ranking points.

Every AMMAN International Tennis Championship series feature 32 main round slots and 48 spaces in the qualification round of a single event.

Meanwhile, in the doubles sector, only 16 pairs have the right to compete in the main round.

According to the ITF site, the Indian tennis athlete Sasikumar Mukund, who ranks 441st in the world, will be the top player during the first series of the championship.

The 18 countries that participate in the tournament comprise Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Korea, India, Australia, New Zealand, Netherlands, Russia and France, and South Africa.

The host country will deploy its ace athletes, such as Muhammad Rifqi Fitriadi, who was part of the national team that bagged the silver medal during the men's group in the 2022 SEA Games in Vietnam.

Moreover, Nathan Anthony Barki is currently the best junior tennis player in Indonesia.

In addition, two other Indonesian tennis athletes -- Achad Imam Ma'ruf and Rifqy Sukma Ramadhan -- received the main lottery wildcard.
