Data received in Jakarta showed that FMD has so far spread to 281 districts/cities in 24 Indonesian provinces. The majority of the infected livestock are cattle.
Overall, 468,624 heads of livestock have been infected with FMD, 297,270 livestock have been declared cured, 165,843 have not recovered, 5,115 have died, and 8,073 have been slaughtered conditionally.
The infected livestock comprise 447,394 heads of cows, 15,972 buffaloes, 1,661 sheep, 3,509 goats, and 88 pigs. Meanwhile, the livestock declared cured consist of 283,865 heads of cows, 10,023 buffaloes, 1,101 sheep, 2,249 goats, and 32 pigs.

There are several provinces with more than 50 percent FMD cases that have been categorized as red zones—Aceh, Jambi, Riau, West Sumatra, Bengkulu, Bangka Belitung, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, and East Java, the FMD Task Force informed.
FMD emerged in East Java Province, with the first infection confirmed on May 5, 2022, the task force added.
It suggested several ways to prevent FMD such as limiting animal movement, monitoring traffic and carrying out surveillance, prohibiting the entry of livestock from other areas, strict quarantine, good maintenance management, improving sanitation, and regularly disinfecting cages and their surroundings.
Previously, coordinator of the expert team of the FMD handling task force, Professor Wiku Adisasmito, had said that the government is intensively conducting inspections to suppress the spread of infections.
It is also prioritizing the vaccination of healthy livestock in red zones with large livestock populations and high case rates.
In addition, the government has provided medicines and vitamins to treat the clinical symptoms of the disease and to increase the immunity and stamina of livestock, Adisasmito added.
Another effort carried out has been the conditional slaughtering of livestock confirmed with FMD, in accordance with government recommendations, he disclosed.
