He made the statement online during a meeting held for preparing narratives and public communication strategies for the 2024 General Election, which was hosted by the Presidential Staff Office with the relevant ministries and institutions in Bandung, West Java, on Wednesday.
"The 2024 General Election is important for everyone. I don't want the problems in the previous election to happen again. At the very least, we must be able to reduce the risk of these disturbances because we want to be an advanced nation, guaranteeing the implementation of the democratic party properly," he said in a press statement received here.
Moeldoko made the appeal in view of the polemics that emerged during the 2019 General Election, which ranged from the distribution of election logistics not being delivered to the right target, voter data not being up-to-date, leaving many incapable of exercising their right to vote, to the issue of election officers' excessive workload.
There was also money politics, the spread of hoaxes on social media, and calls for forgoing voting altogether, which were frequent at various electoral levels.
Collaboration between ministries and agencies is expected to help them gauge the risks that could hinder the elections, which are hosted every five years, he explained.
"The success of the election is an inseparable part of the improvement of the quality and consolidation of our democracy. Under the command of the Presidential Staff Office, this forum was initiated as a means of discussion among fellow teams within the government scope. The goal is to map out strategic issues and challenges of the 2024 General Election by learning from previous election events," he said.
Wednesday’s meeting was expected to lead to the formation of a General Election task force as a forum for joint cross-ministerial work, which focuses on improving public communication.
Moeldoko said he expected the task force to come up with solutions and recommendations to deal with various issues surrounding the 2024 election.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, the Home Affairs Ministry, the Communication and Informatics Technology Ministry, and the Religious Affairs Ministry.
Personnel from the national defense force, national police force, the State Intelligence Agency, and the National Cyber and Crypto Agency were also present at the meeting.
