Jakarta (ANTARA) - The commemoration of the 77th Independence Day can be a momentum to realize food security for all people, state-run food holding ID FOOD has said.

"On the 77th anniversary of Indonesia (Independence Day), let’s determine (ourselves) to become ‘food fighters,’ thus we can use our independence to advance the Indonesian food sector,” president commissioner of ID FOOD’s holding company PT Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia, Bayu Krisnamurthi, said here on Saturday.

Hence, as a state-owned food holding, ID FOOD has the responsibility to assist the Indonesian people to achieve food security.

“We became independent (from the colonizers) to free the people — (and) independence must be shared. We use the term ‘food fighters’ since we still have to fight for our food security," the official remarked.

Meanwhile, president director of PT Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia, Frans Marganda Tambunan, said that the food sector in Indonesia needs to recover faster and stronger.

This must be realized by ID FOOD as the company that has been given a mandate by the government to advance the domestic food sector, he added.

In addition, the holding is also responsible for promoting and prospering its partners, namely farmers and fishermen.

"It is quite a huge work for all of us (ID FOOD), hence we will keep our spirits up," Tambunan added.

Furthermore, on the same occasion, Krisnamurthi estimated that the price of wheat will not spike again since the commodity has reached its highest price.

The price will not rise again considering that currently, wheat harvest has started in Europe as well as North and South America, he added.

About 20 to 25 percent of the total carbohydrate consumption of Indonesian people comes from processed wheat products, such as noodles and bread, he noted.

However, the increasing price of wheat will not have much impact on the domestic market if Indonesia is able to diversify its food sources so that the country does not need to depend on imports, he said.
