Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Puan Maharani opined that the bureaucratic reform conducted by all state civil servants in the country served as a driving force in pursuing Indonesia's progress.

"The number of our state civil servants is currently more than 3.9 million people. Bureaucratic reform conducted by the state civil servants is a basis of power in accelerating Indonesia's (development) progress," Maharani delivered the statement during the 2022 Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives and Regional Representative Council here on Tuesday.

To conduct bureaucratic reform, the state civil servants must steer clear of one negative outlook, in this case, of normalizing the wrong things, and have the spirit to change it by implementing the right ones instead, she stated.

She also said that the bureaucratic reform agenda was also one of the strategic agendas that could be pursued by citizens in a bid to reinforce Indonesia's development progress.

Furthermore, in addition to bureaucratic reform, she drew attention to some other strategic agendas that the citizens could follow in order to achieve better progress.

These include firstly, building the quality and character of Indonesian people by facilitating them to access opportunities to receive education at every level possible.

Maharani also pointed to the need for a national food sovereignty development agenda that could be worked on by the government by focusing on improving food productivity, the food industry, and the welfare of farmers in Indonesia.

Third, bringing about an improvement in the national industry that can be achieved by involving the entire community by fostering a sense of pride in using domestic products.

"And then there is equitable distribution of infrastructure development. Equitable distribution of infrastructure throughout Indonesia requires attention from all of us. Development progress in the regions is Indonesia's progress," she concluded.
