Jakarta (ANTARA) - The commemoration of Indonesia's 77th Independence Day is the right momentum for the people to improve family health, according to the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN).

"The Independence Day commemoration momentum should be utilized by the people to focus more on the quality of family health in accordance with the commemoration's theme of 'Recover Faster, Revive Stronger,'" BKKBN's Head, Hasto Wradoyo, noted.

The quality of family health is crucial to create a competitive and quality golden generation, he stated when contacted by ANTARA here on Friday.

Realizing this requires clean and healthy behavior that constitutes balanced nutrition, including animal protein, while also maintaining a clean environment in accordance with the seven pillars of Healthy Community Movement (Germas), according to Wradoyo.

These seven pillars comprise engaging in physical activity, consuming fruits and vegetables, abstaining from smoking, not consuming alcohol, undergoing routine health examinations, maintaining environmental cleanliness, and using toilets.

"Through Presidential Regulation No. 72 of 2021 on Stunting Reduction Acceleration, the BKKBN is mandated to become a coordinator for accelerating stunting reduction in 2024, with the target to decline to 14 percent," he stated.

"To this end, the BKKBN continues to disseminate (information on) various strategic efforts, such as through Germas," he noted.

Implementing several pillars within Germas can support the efforts to reduce stunting, Wardoyo stated.

For instance, one of the pillars of Germas of eating fruits and vegetables can help to meet the children's nutritional needs and prevent stunting, he explained.

Similarly, routine health examination is deemed crucial for future couples to ensure that expectant mothers are not anaemic, thereby raising the risk of children being born with stunting, he stated.

Subsequently, the efforts to maintain environmental cleanliness and using toilets additionally help in improving the family's quality of life.

"Children's health condition is very important to ensure their development. Children born in an environment with bad sanitary conditions face a risk of contracting health diseases and problems that can hinder their development," Wardoyo noted.
