What we are fighting now is learning loss and not face-to-face learning or remote learning
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Pediatric Society (IDAI) has urged parents to monitor children's education to reduce the risk of learning loss amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Regardless of the age of the child, the best way for families to reduce the impact of this learning loss is to create a comfortable and pleasant environment while they (children) are at home or at school," IDAI's Head of Pediatric Social Growth and Development Unit, Dr Ahmad Suryawan, Sp.A(K), noted in an online media briefing on Face-to-Face Learning Evaluation here on Friday.

Suryawan explained that learning loss is a situation wherein students experience a decrease in knowledge and skills on account of discontinuities or interruptions in their learning process due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"What we are fighting now is learning loss and not face-to-face learning or remote learning," he stressed.

He added that families could reduce the potential for learning loss if they are able to have high creativity while teaching their children.

"Teachers have limitations because they have to pay attention to many students. Meanwhile, parents can approach children personally," he stated.

On the same occasion, IDAI Head, Dr. Piprim Basarah Yanuarso, Sp.A(K), also reminded parents to continually strive to improve and maintain a healthy lifestyle for their children.

Yanuarso emphasized that amid the dynamic situation of the pandemic, in addition to getting vaccinated and implementing health protocols, strengthening immunity was also crucial.

"It can be done by leading a healthy lifestyle," he stated.

Head of the COVID-19 Task Force of the IDAI, Dr Yogi Prawira Sp.A(K), reminded schools to continuously promote a clean and healthy lifestyle to students, as it can prevent several infectious diseases.

"The keyword is a clean and healthy lifestyle. We know that Indonesia is the 'supermarket' of infectious diseases. Thus, the keyword is a clean and healthy lifestyle," the task force head remarked.
