Good governance based on transparency will maintain national security and even international (security), and support business operations.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia, through the G20 and B20 Presidency, has striven to mitigate the risk of corruption in the midst of global crises by improving business compliance and integrity, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated.

"Good governance based on transparency will (help to) maintain national security and even international (security), and support business operations," Hartarto noted in a statement here on Saturday.

As part of Open Government Partnership (OGP), he said, the government has continued to build synergy with all stakeholders to support corruption eradication and create long-term pandemic responses that are transparent, effective, and just through various policies.

The OGP is a multilateral initiative that aims to secure concrete commitments from national and sub-national governments to promote open government, empower citizens, fight corruption, and harness new technologies to strengthen governance.

According to Hartarto, bribery, money laundering, terrorism funding, and cybercrime were prompted by several factors, such as volatile financial climate, the swift move in companies' focus on risk mitigation and crisis handling, and the increased threat against cybersecurity in line with swift digital transformation during the pandemic.

"Hence, companies are required to take adequate steps in corruption mitigation with the implementation of good governance and transparency in reports," he added.

The minister said, through the Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) G20, the government has encouraged G20 member countries to adopt the common principles of Cross-Border Data Flows and Data Free Flow with Trust that comprise lawfulness, fairness, transparency, and reciprocity.

The Data Free Flow with Trust will also be a form of structural transformation to create a balanced, inclusive, and multilateral global order.

In addition, he said, through the Indonesian G20 Presidency, the Anti-Corruption Working Group (ACWG) will also focus on discussion to improve transparency and accountability both in public and private sectors.

Hartarto remarked that Indonesia will also increase transparency in its efforts to mitigate the impact of climate change, in accordance with the Paris Agreement, as a form of its commitment to advocate green economy and to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.

He applauded the effort of the B20 forum to raise the issue of compliance to maintain business sustainability.

"Indonesia's agendas include realizing a just and affordable energy transition, while in terms of digitalization, (the target) is data transfer with trust," Hartarto stated.
