We are planning to meet with the communication and informatics minister to ask (his party) to take down the advertisements circulating through social media platforms.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) Benny Rhamdani said his side will coordinate with the Communication and Informatics Ministry (Kemkominfo) to remove advertisements on illegal placement of Indonesian migrant workers on social media.

"We are planning to meet with the communication and informatics minister to ask (his party) to take down the advertisements circulating through social media platforms," the head of BP2MI remarked at a press conference here on Tuesday.

Rhamdani pointed to the presence of numerous illegal recruitment advertisements on social media. Most of these advertisements offer high salaries, easy placement abroad, as well as various other benefits to people registering for the jobs, including no placement cost.

For instance, the case in which hundreds of Indonesians were deceived by a fake investment company in Cambodia after participating in the company’s recruitment process through social media.

A total of 241 prospective workers, allegedly victims of the people trafficking crime (TPPO) conducted by the fake investment company, had successfully returned to Indonesia in four repatriation batches during the August 5-22, 2022, period, Rhamdani noted on the same occasion.

Moreover, in some cases, the departure of workers was conducted aboard a chartered aircraft, such as the recent trial of departure of 215 Indonesian workers to Cambodia through the Kuala Namu Airport, North Sumatra Province.

The departure was thwarted after BP2MI received information on the illegal recruitment from the Foreign Affairs Ministry on August 12, 2022.

Currently, the case is still being investigated by the Indonesian National Police. Currently, five people have been named as suspects.

"We leave all of it (the fraud cases) to our colleagues at the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim). However, specifically regarding the removal of advertisements on social media, we will meet with the communications and informatics minister to discuss the issue," the BP2MI head added.
