Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian contingent has emerged as the general champion of Fox's Indonesia Para Badminton International 2022 after winning 17 titles in 18 match categories in the final round at GOR Amongrogo, Yogyakarta city, on Saturday.

Chairperson of the Indonesian National Paralympic Committee (NPC), Senny Marbun, said that the success of the Red-and-White squad shows the great talent of Indonesian para badminton athletes.

"This championship is an outlet for athletes who want to show their skills, which can lead to even higher achievements," he added.

Among the winners in the Indonesian contingent were SH6 mixed doubles pair Subhan and Rina Marlina, who successfully defeated Peruvian-Polish pair Hector Jesus Salva Tunque and Oliwia Szmigiel by 21-2, 21-3.

"We understand their game. I had also met Hector Jesus when I competed in the singles during the championship in Dubai, so I was more confident," Subhan said.

The earlier championship was an important factor in Subhan and Marlina’s win.

Then, in the wheelchair class, Supriadi-Agung Widodo and Wiwin Andri claimed victories in the WH1-WH2 men's doubles and the WH 2 men's singles, respectively.

Andri said he believed his win at the event will be important preparation for another world championship that will be held in Japan in the coming months.

"Hopefully, I can go to Japan to participate in the world championships. My preparation is regular training and hopefully, I can make Indonesia proud again," he explained.
