Construction of the NDP KEK is part of the government's strategic efforts in supporting development of the digital economy in Indonesia and international connectivity, especially in the Southeast Asian region
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government continues to design the Nongsa Digital Park (NDP) in Batam to become a Special Economic Zone (KEK) that seizes investment opportunities in the digital industry and supports development of the digital economy.

"Construction of the NDP KEK is part of the government's strategic efforts in supporting development of the digital economy in Indonesia and international connectivity, especially in the Southeast Asian region," Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Susiwijono Moegiarso stated here on Monday.

Moegiarso said the NDP is expected to become a service- and digital-based pilot plan zone that can be emulated in other regions of the country.

In accordance with Government Regulation No. 68 of 2021, the NDP KEK has a total investment target of Rp39.9 trillion, with targeted labor absorption of 16,500 people by 2040.

Moegiarso pointed out that the NDP KEK can save the country up to Rp20-30 trillion annually in foreign exchange in digital business, with the largest contribution from the data center and international education sectors.

Meanwhile, the development of NDP KEK in the IT-Digital sector includes a data center, IT Office Park (co-working space), IT education, animation and film industry, and service center.

As an entry point for international IT companies, the NDP KEK is designated as Indonesia's IT Hub Digital Bridge to Singapore and abroad.

Construction of the NDP has also maximized international internet connections, wherein seven submarine fiber optic cables can optimize development of the data center and the animation industry.

Meanwhile, the transfer of IT technology can make the NDP a center for developing IT human resources, and various training programs have resulted in a total of 560 local IT-enabled youth, almost all of whom have been absorbed by the IT industry.
