Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Education System Bill gives recognition to early childhood education (PAUD) teachers, according to Director General of Teachers and Education Personnel at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Iwan Syahril.

"This bill gives recognition to PAUD teachers and equality. Through this bill, PAUD units that provide services to children aged three to five can be recognized as formal educational units," he explained here on Monday.

Therefore, teachers of PAUD and non-formal educational units will be able to earn an income as teachers as long as they meet the applicable requirements, he said.

Chairperson of the Indonesian Early Childhood Educators and Education Personnel Association Netti Herawati said that the National Education System Bill, which was formulated based on data, will be able to answer problems related to the implementation of education in the field, including the recognition of PAUD schools as formal educational units for children aged three to five years.

"I think this is a form of equality, a form of propriety where, when a teacher meets the criteria, competence, qualifications, they are entitled to get that recognition," she added.

Herawati also appealed to teachers not to worry about the possible elimination of professional allowances for teachers because there is no article in the National Education System Bill referring to this.

"There is nothing to be worried about in this law. It is important for us to monitor the derivative rules of this law," she said.

The government has proposed the designation of the National Education System Bill as a priority bill for this year's National Legislative Program to the House of Representatives (DPR).

The bill will integrate three existing laws regulating national education, head of the Educational Standards, Curriculum, and Assessment Agency (BSKAP) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Anindito Aditomo, informed in a written statement issued on August 26, 2022.

The three laws that would be replaced by the National Education System Bill are Law Number 20 of 2003 on the National Education System, Law Number 14 of 2005 on Teachers and University Lecturers, and Law Number 12 of 2012 on Higher Education, he said.
