The quality of coffee in Papua is amazing, as it is planted at two thousand feet above sea level. This is exceptional, (and its quality) is at par with the globally popular arabica coffee
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Co-operatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Teten Masduki commended Papuan micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) products that have achieved quality at par with that of their counterparts in Java.

"This can be the showcase of MSMEs products, particularly with more guidance, product curation, and package branding, which attracts the residents' interest to products made by MSMEs in Papua," Masduki stated while officiating the MSMEs Gallery in Jayapura, Papua, as per the official statement on Thursday.

The minister highlighted Papua as a province with myriad potentials in its varied commodities, such as coffee, sago, marine resources, and fruits.

A company has assessed the potential of the breadfruit commodity in Papua as the material of gluten-free flour and baby food, he pointed out.

The local authority has also begun planting coffee in the province's Pegunungan Bintang District, albeit still on a limited capacity, he remarked.

"The quality of coffee in Papua is amazing, as it is planted at two thousand feet above sea level. This is exceptional, (and its quality) is at par with the globally popular arabica coffee," Masduki noted.

If the province can intensify its efforts to develop main commodities, the province could then provide a new economic resource for the people and enhance the regional economy, the minister stated.

He also cited New Zealand as an example of a country that has successfully developed its economy, with three commodities of dairy, meat, and kiwi fruit as the mainstay.

"Papua is no less good. (It has) marine and forest resources, red fruit (pandanus conoideus), and chocolate. From various commodities, the authority needs to designate its main commodity to ensure its management, regional support, and research could be optimized to produce quality products," Masduki remarked.
