Efforts to reduce the number of (cases of) violence against women require effective, efficient, and sustainable steps in terms of prevention, assistance, victim recovery, and law enforcement processes.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The availability of complete and accurate data is an absolute prerequisite for formulating policies, programs, and activities for women's protection, the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection has said.

"Efforts to reduce the number of (cases of) violence against women require effective, efficient, and sustainable steps in terms of prevention, assistance, victim recovery, and law enforcement processes. Therefore, the availability of complete and accurate data is an absolute prerequisite," Secretary of the ministry Pribudiarta Nur Sitepu said at the Synergy Report of Violence Against Women Database event, which was followed online here on Monday.

According to him, currently, the community's awareness regarding violence against women and children has improved. Thus, reports of cases of violence have increased.

"This is essential for integrated reports, and we hope, in the future, integrated reports can become our joint effort," Sitepu said.

Currently, the ministry, the National Commission on Violence against Women (Komnas Perempuan), and the Service Provider Forum (FPL) have agreed to make efforts to integrate data on reports of violence against women as a follow-up to the Joint Agreement on Data Synergy and Utilization of the Documentation System for Cases of Violence against Women for the Fulfillment of Women's Rights, which was signed by the three institutions on December 21, 2019, he informed.

In 2021, the three institutions agreed to jointly provide data on violence against women from January to June 2021 as an initial step for ensuring the synergy of data on violence against women, he said.

The activity was continued by integrating data on reports of violence against women in the period from July to December 2021.

At the same event, Chair of Komnas Perempuan Andy Yentriyani emphasized that database synergy is essential so that it can be used as the basis for developing better policies.

"Not only in our efforts to handle cases of violence against women and children but also in our efforts to encourage the progress of Constitutional rights," she added.

With database synergy, the data would be more effective in efforts to present data-based policies, she said.
