Jakarta (ANTARA) - The revitalization of Indonesia's aerospace industry is one of the strategies for increasing economic productivity and achieving the Golden Indonesia 2045 Vision, the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) has said.

"For increasing economic productivity, we are striving to strengthen capabilities in advanced manufacturing. This includes the revitalization of the Indonesian aerospace industry," Minister of National Development Planning and head of Bappenas, Suharso Monoarfa, informed at the G20 Development Ministerial Meeting (DMM) in Belitung, Bangka Belitung Islands, on Wednesday.

He emphasized that it is important for Indonesia to develop a dynamic and sustainable aerospace industry.

This is because Indonesia has a very large population that is spread over many islands, so mobilization must be facilitated to provide added value to the economy, he explained.

At the same time, the revitalization will create more opportunities for the growth of the aerospace industry and its components, as well as encourage the domestic industry to meet market needs for aircraft and its components.

"We will use this opportunity not only to meet the growing demand but also to develop our ability to supply global and domestic products and services," he explained.

According to Monoarfa, the rejuvenation of the country's aerospace industry will increase global collaboration on knowledge of aircraft manufacturing, so Indonesia will have the potential to create more complex aircraft.

He added that the aerospace industry can support the transformation of Indonesia's manufacturing sector so it has high added value and can enter the global value chain.

"This can increase Indonesia's share in exports of high-tech products," he said.

Meanwhile, Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that the aviation industry is the backbone of national transportation and connectivity as well as the main driver of the Indonesian economy.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has estimated that Indonesia will become the sixth largest air transportation market in the world by 2034, he highlighted.
