Jakarta (ANTARA) - Museum management transformation must become a joint movement of all parties, both stakeholders and the community, and be followed by research and sustainable funding, People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Deputy Speaker Lestari Moerdijat stated.

"Efforts of transformation in the field of culture, especially museum management, must be a joint movement. Cultural development is not only physical but must also be supported by cultural research and sustainable funding," Moerdijat noted in a written statement received here on Friday.

Furthermore, she assessed that the use of technology could be one of the keys to transformation of the function of the museum, from what was originally only a place to store cultural objects to finally becoming a space that is able to offer cultural experiences to its visitors.

In fact, digital transformation will be able to unite two groups in museum management, specifically groups that prioritize aspects of conservation and those that prioritize economic use, she explained.

Moerdijat noted that currently, digital transformation in the field of culture had garnered significant attention from the public and was being studied by academics through various scientific writings. She assessed that the situation could also support digital transformation in the field of culture, especially museum management.

The key to supervising the transformation is by changing the mindset of stakeholders and the community, she pointed out. Thus, managers of museums and cultural heritage objects will be able to understand the steps of cultural development.

The MPR deputy speaker noted that currently, museums that were successfully fulfilling their functions did not only focus on becoming a place to exhibit cultural objects but were also able to offer experiences to their visitors. Hence, museums can also bring a source of income to the managers.

Moreover, she affirmed that 60 percent of the Indonesian population belonged to the generation Z, who have known and explored the digital culture early. This condition has become both a challenge and an opportunity for stakeholders in museum management and cultural development, in general, she remarked.
