Jakarta (ANTARA) - The head of the Presidential Secretariat promised to follow up on the demands of workers from the All-Indonesia Workers Union Confederation (KSPSI) who staged a protest at the Arjuna Widjaja Monument here on Monday.



The protesters rejected the hike in the price of subsidized fuel oil and called for an increase in workers' wages.



“Today, I received the secretary general (of KSPSI) and other representatives, (and) there were five points delivered (during the audience). I, represent Mr. President's staff, (and) will follow up (on the results of the meeting),” Presidential Secretariat Head Heru Budi Hartono informed the protesters while addressing them from a command car.

The secretariat will invite the related parties to discuss several points related to Government Regulation (PP) No. 36 of 2021 concerning wages, he said.



“Tomorrow (September 12, 2022), we will invite the relevant agencies (to discuss) PP No. 36 and the Job Creation Law. Results will be delivered. Thank you for giving your aspirations," Hartono added.



Meanwhile, seven KSPSI representatives from the mass demonstration conveyed their reservations against the fuel price adjustment to the State Palace after they were invited to do so around 12:30 p.m. local time.

"They who came to the palace conveyed a petition; the petition essentially (is to) reject the fuel price increase because it burdens the society, it is also about the Omnibus Law (Job Creation Law)," chairperson of the Textile, Clothing, and Leather Workers Union of the All-Indonesia Workers Union (SPSI), Agus Darsana, informed at the demonstration site.



The mass of protesters reportedly dispersed around 1:30 p.m. Some security guards were present at the place, and the action was orderly and conducive.



The Greater Jakarta Police earlier said that as many as 6,142 joint personnel were deployed at several points in Jakarta to secure the demonstrations.
