"Preventive (actions have been taken) at entry points (to Bali) at Gilimanuk, Padangbai, Benoa, Celukan Bawang, and the (I Gusti Ngurah Rai) airport. We have also deployed police officers to conduct monitoring and routine check operations or to observe conditions per received reports," Bali Police Chief Inspector General Putu Jayan Danu Putra informed here on Monday.
He said that the Bali Police have coordinated with the police's Special Anti-Terror Detachment 88 (Densus 88) as preventive measures are essential to tackle terror threats against the international event.
"It has been the core part of our operation taking place from December 2021 until the end of November 2022. For contingency issues and high-intensity crimes, we have been backed up by the Densus 88, whose function is to detect (terror) cells and dangerous persons," Putra added.
Densus 88 will take the necessary action against persons or groups deemed harmful to the region or the summit’s organization, he said.
According to Putra, the police have been focusing on the terrorism issue following a Densus 88 raid against a Jamaah Ansharut Daulah-affiliated terror suspect on September 6, 2022, in Denpasar, Bali.
He then reiterated the police's determination to be attentive to all security threats in the region.
The police have installed CCTV sets with face recognition and license plate recognition capabilities at several locations, such as at entry points and the event venue, the local police chief noted.
Putra also called for residents' support and active participation in maintaining the security conditions in their community to ensure the G20 Summit can take place safely.
"I appeal for support from all of you and all residents to inform us, (no matter) how minor the information is, to maintain secure conditions for the G20 Summit," he remarked.
