Jakarta (ANTARA) - People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Deputy Speaker Lestari Moerdijat encouraged the government to consistently and comprehensively educate the community and stakeholders on the importance of using new, renewable energy.

"The transformation to the use of new, renewable energy requires basic efforts, such as the dissemination of consistent and comprehensive education to the community and stakeholders regarding the importance of using new, renewable energy for the nation's future," Moerdijat noted in a written statement received here on Friday.

According to the deputy speaker, the provision of education will be beneficial in building the mindset of members of the community, so that they are encouraged to use environmentally friendly energy in a sustainable manner.

She noted that new and renewable energy that is environmentally friendly could have a positive impact on development of the environmental and economic sectors that can push the acceleration of welfare improvement for the people nationally.

To this end, she assessed that several priority programs in the country must be initiated by building the people's mindset, especially from an early age. Hence, the government's efforts in developing the country can be accelerated with the full support of the community.

In addition, the MPR deputy speaker opined that the government, through various policies, should be able to support the community in the utilization of new, renewable energy.

Earlier, awareness regarding the importance of using new, renewable energy that is environmentally friendly to reduce the negative impact of the use of fossil fuels had been realized through Presidential Instruction Number 7 of 2022 on the use of electric vehicles for official purposes for central and regional government institutions.

The Presidential Instruction was signed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. Through the instruction, President Jokowi called for the utilization of electric vehicles for official purposes, both central and regional governments.

According to the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry's data, Indonesia has abundant new, renewable energy potential of around three thousand GW.

Moerdijat noted that stakeholders should be able to make the most of the country's vast potential.

"The opportunity to transform to the use of new, renewable energy that is environmentally friendly is wide open. Stakeholders must be able to take advantage of the momentum to move towards the widespread use of green energy in the country," she remarked.
