Depok, West Java (ANTARA) - The University of Indonesia (UI) has launched a program to create a world-class tourism village that prioritizes cleanliness, health, safety and environment (CHSE) as well as disaster mitigation.

"The purpose of this collaboration is to identify HSE and disaster risks, create modules and online learning on CHSE and disaster aspects for tourism villages, and donate HSE and disaster equipment," Head of the UI Disaster Risk Reduction Center (DRRC) Prof. Fatma Lestari noted in a statement here on Friday.

The program launch was conducted at the Gunung Padang tourism village, Cianjur, West Java, on Thursday.

Under the program, DRRC, which manages the Kedaireka Matching Fund Grant of the University of Indonesia - the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, will also create a Tourism Village Information System and analysis of Disaster Impacts.

The program involves lecturers, students, and alumni of the Faculty of Public Health of UI and UI's School of Environmental Sciences (SIL).

Lestari said the activities are expected to increase HR competence in managing tourism villages, especially related to CHSE and disaster mitigation.

The COVID-19 pandemic has driven the tourism sector to implement health protocols strictly and paying attention to CHSE.

Data of the Tourism Village Network (Jadesta) in 2021 showed that Indonesia had more than seven thousand villages and they needed massive CHSE disaster mitigation education and to be supported by disaster risk mapping in order to protect tourists.

Hence, the program, implemented in cooperation with the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry, is aimed at identifying CHSE and disaster risks as well as improving the quality of human resources in tourism villages.

This program will be implemented through several stages, including CHSE and disaster risk identification, CHSE online training and disaster mitigation, CHSE and disaster training field verification, Tourism Village Information System (SIDEWITA) HSE and disaster, Disaster Impact Analysis, Crisis Management Destination Management, and Program Management.
