Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA) - The Tourism and Creative Economic Ministry will hold the 2022 Big 50 Tourism Village Awards in Campaga Village, Tompobulu Sub-district, Bantaeng District, South Sulawesi Province.

"The 2022 Indonesian Tourism Village Award (ADWI) is one of the Indonesian tourism development programs that is being promoted by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy," Head of the Bantaeng District Tourism Office Harmoni remarked here on Tuesday.

Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno is expected to be present at the ADWI 2022 event in Campaga on Sept 9.

Campaga, which is a nominee of the awards, has a protected forest measuring a total area of about 23 hectares and is home to myriad plant species.

It also functions as an educational forest for students to gain information on various species of flora and fauna existing in the Campaga jungle.

The protected forest has a spring that supplies clean water to the residents of Campaga and the neighboring villages.

"There is also a well-maintained spring here, so it is very promising as an attractive destination for tourists," he remarked.

Meanwhile, at the 2022 National Tourism Village Award held recently by the ministry, it was revealed that Indonesia has 3,419 tourism villages.

Of the total figure, 50 tourism villages have been deemed the best since they meet several criteria, such as attractiveness of local products; good residential service standards; sustainable management; Clean, Health, Safety, and Environment (CHSE) standard compliance; and digitalization as a means to improve tourism villages.
