Semarang, Central Java (ANTARA) - Deputy Governor of Central Java, Taj Yasin Maimoen, has asked all village heads in the province to become agents for preventing all forms of corruption that can negatively affect the community.

He delivered the instruction while opening the Anticorruption Villages Technical Training organized by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) at the Central Java Inspectorate Office here on Monday.

Maimoen said he hopes the village heads would use the training to determine acts that can lead to corruption and make efforts to prevent them.

Corruption is a criminal act that is very detrimental to the community, he said. He then pointed to the example of a village head in Tlogotuwung, Blora district, who was suspected of graft involving at least Rp600 million in village funds in the 2019–2021 budget year.

"Meanwhile (based on) KPK data, there are 601 cases of corruption in village funds in Indonesia. If one (corrupt) person is (demanding) Rp600 million, then if there are 10 people, it will be Rp6 billion. In fact, the data has reached 601 cases," he highlighted.

Village heads must have integrity and uphold their oath of office so that they can transparently show the programs that have been launched and the budget utilization to the community, he added.

Village heads are also required to devise programs that are right on target for economic development in their respective regions.

The deputy governor asked village governments and staff to take part in corruption prevention actively.

Meanwhile, deputy head of KPK, Nuril Ghufron, said that the commission is currently helping 26 Central Java villages pilot the Anticorruption Villages Program.

Ghufron expressed the hope that through this activity, two things will be realized: the commitment of village heads to serve the community and village governance, starting from participatory, accountable, and transparent planning.
