Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Health Ministry is conducting a trial integration of the digital medical records of patients of 738 East Java public health centers (Puskesmas) with the SatuSehat application, according to the ministry's Digital Transformation Office (DTO).

"For three days, 738 Puskesmas in East Java will participate in a trial to evaluate the readiness for conducting interoperability between patient data recording systems that has been ongoing with SatuSehat," chief operating officer of the office, Oscar Baskoro, informed here on Thursday.

SatuSehat, which means “one health,” is a platform that integrates data, analysis, and services that support the exchange of individual health data between health service facilities.

The platform has been integrated with the Puskesmas Management Information System (Simpus) to enable application input to improve service efficiency and accommodate program needs while serving as a basis for policy creation.

According to Baskoro, the trial is being undertaken to evaluate Puskesmas' readiness, as providers of primary health services, for carrying out health technology transformation.

East Java was chosen as the province for SatuSehat's initial integration after officials from the DTO and other institutions visited and evaluated the Puskesmas’ utilization of Simpus at the end of August 2022.

"From this visit, we saw that East Java becomes the province with the highest number of Puskesmas that actively utilize the Simpus application," he informed.

Through SatuSehat, patients can receive information about their health in a more transparent manner since medical records from hospitals are recorded digitally on the app with the approval of data owners, he noted.

The Puskesmas will join the SatuSehat integration trial like alpha and beta participants. Alpha is a trial group that comprises 32 regional public hospitals in Jakarta and 9 vertical hospitals.

Meanwhile, the beta group comprises 41 health service facilities from private hospitals, laboratories, private practices, and pharmacies that were chosen after registering for the trial and passing the ministry's selection.

The trial and mentoring of Puskesmas, alpha, and beta participants will be undertaken in parallel until SatuSehat can be released to the public, Baskoro informed.

After East Java, the ministry will expand the trial to Puskesmas across all areas of Java and Bali and then several other regions across Indonesia.

"The expectation is that, by the end of 2022, there will be around 12 thousand health service facilities that will be integrated with the SatuSehat and all health service facilities by 2023," he said.
