"In order to strengthen Kompolnas, our efforts internally are working with the National Police. We are currently processing the revision of Presidential Regulation 17 of 2011, specifically regarding the functional supervision authority that needs to be expanded," Benny Josua Mamoto stated during a seminar titled "Revitalization of Kompolnas" held on the Zoom Meeting platform, monitored from Jakarta, Tuesday.
Mamoto explained that the functional supervisory authority is based on Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 17 of 2011 on the National Police Commission.
Article 3, paragraph (2) of Presidential Regulation Number 17 of 2011 states that the functional supervision by Kompolnas is conducted through monitoring and evaluating the performance and integrity of members and officers of the National Police in accordance with the provisions of the legislation.
"Hence, monitoring and evaluating the performance and integrity of National Police (Polri) members as well as officials is in accordance with the provisions of the legislation," he remarked.
He expressed optimism that Kompolnas' functional supervision authority would include monitoring, inspection, testing, and assessment activities.
Hence, in order to strengthen Kompolnas, his side is working with the National Police to revise Presidential Regulation No. 17 of 2011.
He conveyed the statement after drawing attention to several rumors during the Public Hearing Meeting (RDPU) with the House of Representatives (DPR) that questioned the performance of Kompolnas.
"However, Arsul Sani (a member of Commission III of the DPR) expects Kompolnas to be strengthened. In fact, he said that if necessary, a limited revision (will be made) of Law Number 2 of 2022 concerning the Indonesian National Police," he stated.

The Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection and the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on legal protection and fulfillment of rights of women and child victims of violence.
This MoU is important and relevant to the issue of violence against women and children that occurs in society, Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Bintang Puspayoga noted in a statement on Thursday.
This inking of the agreement holds significance, especially since the ratification of Law No. 12 of 2022 on Sexual Violence Criminal Act that necessitates the existence of special mechanisms for handling cases of violence, she remarked.
Puspayoga expects the MoU to serve as a foundation for development of the National Police's (Polri's) strategic policy course that integrates the efforts for protection and fulfillment of rights for women and children in Indonesia.
The MoU was also signed by the Kompolnas head as well as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD.
Moreover, the MoU aims to realize a cooperation framework in monitoring, advancing, and protecting women and children as well as the law enforcement apparatus.
