Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection and the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on legal protection and fulfillment of rights of women and child victims of violence.

This MoU is very important and relevant to the issue of violence against women and children that occurs in society, Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Bintang Puspayoga noted in a statement on Thursday.

This inking is important, especially since the ratification of Law No. 12 of 2022 on Sexual Violence Criminal Act that necessitates the existence of special mechanisms for handling cases of violence, she remarked.

Puspayoga expects the MoU to be a foundation for development of the National Police's (Polri's) strategic policy course that integrates the efforts for protection and fulfillment of rights for women and children in Indonesia.

The MoU was also signed by the Kompolnas head as well as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD.

The MoU also aims to realize a cooperation framework in monitoring, advancing, and protecting women and children as well as law enforcement.

The minister also pressed for sound synergy and cooperation to continue to prioritize the interests of women and children.

"I also pressed for support from Polri that can also cooperate in implementing various developments that emerge from this MoU," she affirmed.

Puspayoga also urged that the agreement should not solely remain a document but be passed down to various cooperation agreements that can truly be implemented for the benefit of the people.

Through the statement, the minister noted that inter-sectoral synergy and women supporting one another were key to presenting an inclusive policy for women and encouraging gender equality.
