Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated that the Indonesian government and FIFA will form a transformation team for the country's football following the tragedy at Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang, East Java.

"FIFA, along with the government, will set up an Indonesian football transformation team, and FIFA will be based in Indonesia throughout the process," he stated while issuing a press statement online, Friday evening.

This is one of the points in the letter from FIFA that Jokowi has accepted as a follow up during his phone conversation with FIFA President Gianni Infantino on Monday.

FIFA, Asian Football Confederation (AFC), and Indonesian government will collaborate to develop security standards in all of Indonesia's stadiums, he noted.

The three parties will then also formulate protocol standards and security procedure that the police conducted on the basis of the international security standard.

The collaboration among Indonesia, AFC, and FIFA will also involve dissemination of information and discussion with football clubs in Indonesia, including supporters' representatives, to obtain suggestions, inputs, and collective commitment.

The three parties will also highlight the match schedule to consider risk potentials that exist while also involving experts in their fields.

Jokowi also noted that Infantino will visit Indonesia in October or November to hold discussions with the government.

In addition, the letter stated that Indonesian football will not be subject to a sanction from FIFA over the Kanjuruhan Tragedy.

The Kanjuruhan Tragedy occurred after the match between Arema Malang and Persebaya Surabaya ended with a score 2-3.

After the match ended, several supporters dashed to the field, and in a bid to handle the situation, security officials shot tear gas in the direction of the stadium stands.

According to data from the Malang Health Office, 131 people died due to the Kanjuruhan Tragedy, while 440 people suffered from mild injuries and 29 people were severely injured.
