Out of the 23 foreigners, there were 6 children under 5 years old.Badung, Bali (ANTARA) - The Denpasar Search and Rescue Office (Basarnas) and a joint search and rescue (SAR) team evacuated international and domestic tourists from Seminyak area, Badung District, Bali Province, following a flood on Saturday.
"All of the evacuated flood victims are safe and in good condition. The flood has started to recede. Earlier, the joint SAR team evacuated a total of 33 tourists consisting of 23 foreigners and 10 Indonesian citizens. Out of the 23 foreigners, there were 6 children under 5 years old," Head for Search and Rescue Standby and Operations at the office Anak Agung Ketut Alit Supartana said here on Saturday.
He informed that heavy rains, which fell in a number of areas in Bali province since Friday (October 7, 2022), resulted in flooding at several locations.
On Saturday morning, the office was asked to help evacuate several tourists trapped by floodwaters from three villas in Seminyak area.
"The height of the flood (waters) was about 1 to 1.5 meters. Hence, we immediately deployed a team to the location using rubber boats to carry out the evacuation soon," the official said.
He added that in addition to evacuating tourists from Seminyak area, his party also evacuated residents affected by floods from other locations, such as the Pura Demak area and Bung Tomo Street, Denpasar City, Bali.
Meanwhile, the joint SAR team evacuated 19 residents from the Third Alley of Pura Demak Street. In the Detan alley of Pura Demak Street, the team managed to bring 10 residents to a safer place.
"Regarding the SAR operation on Bung Tomo 10 Street, we got a report that one resident was swept away by the stream, and after we dispatched a rescue team and conducted the search operation, the victim was found dead in the river at approximately 500 meters from the location of the incident," Supartana added.
