Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Communication and Informatics Ministry has urged industry actors to implement personal data protection measures to improve consumer trust.

"The government is preparing its supporting regulation and is disseminating the law," Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate said at the “Welcoming the PDP Law: Gaining Consumer Trust with Reliable Data Protection Regime” discussion.

"At the same time, we urge all businesses to cooperate and realize all the necessary adjustments to comply with the new regulation," he added, according to a statement issued on Wednesday.

The government has already formulated a strategy to prepare the future of data management to improve citizens’ or consumers' trust within the context of the industry, he informed.

The government is seeking to ensure that all data collection and delivery is undertaken in a safe manner.

Trust in data management is an important aspect of business. The ministry quoted Adobe’s 2022 report, which states that 79 percent of consumers are worried about how companies use their data.

Meanwhile, 34 percent of consumers are very worried that their data are being used, the report adds.

"As a result, digital businesses are currently encountering a serious challenge," Plate said.

On the one hand, companies are demanded to maintain the secrecy of personal data. While on the other, they need to provide more personalized services in order to attract customers.

This condition has led to customer concerns over personal data safety.

The effort to develop trusted digital experiences requires businesses to integrate privacy strengthening technology as part of the business process.

"This is where our major effort lies. What I see is that there are three main important aspects in data-based future, namely human, technology, and data management," the minister said.

Competition for human resources in data protection has become an important issue. Companies also need to understand the risk of data privacy and realize the responsibility of data processing.

Further, the government is encouraging digital management to ensure personal data protection.
