Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta's Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) mobilized a disaster preparedness team to anticipate potential flooding in South Jakarta and East Jakarta following an early warning from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) on Thursday.

"This step is in accordance with the directive from BNPB," Head of Jakarta BPBD Isnawa Adji stated in Jakarta, Thursday.

Based on data from the Jakarta BPBD, 267 rapid reaction team personnel are deployed in every village in Jakarta to monitor the impact of the weather.

Participation of the community and other agencies is also needed to assist in flood prevention after the Jakarta BPBD has collected data on human resources and evacuation equipment, Adji remarked.

Apart from conducting efforts to mobilize the standby team and resources, the agency also monitors the latest on-field conditions and disseminates warning information related to rainfall, water level, and potential risks of inundation areas.

The Jakarta BPBD also readies refugee camps, including evacuation infrastructure, in accordance with health protocols, prepares logistics and equipment needs, and helps to evacuate vulnerable groups, he remarked.

In accordance with BNPB's directive, his side also encourages the community to prepare a disaster preparedness team by monitoring the current conditions on the field and coordinating with village officials as well as preparing for evacuation.

The community should also store important items to a safe place; limit activities outside the home; and avoid large trees, billboard, and drains as well, Adji stated.

Moreover, the people should prepare a standby bag containing food, beverages, medicines, money, clothing, and valuable documents; evacuate vulnerable groups; and maintain health protocols.

The early warning came after the results of an analysis by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) regarding forecasts based on the impact of heavy rains in the Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) areas on Thursday.

The BMKG estimates that South Jakarta and East Jakarta are placed on the full alert flood category, while West Jakarta, Central Jakarta, and North Jakarta are on the flood alert category.

The forecast is from Thursday, October 13, at 7:00 local time to Friday, October 14 at 7:00 local time.
