With good synergy, comprehensive plastic waste management, a suitable management ecosystem, and the active participation of all parties, we believe the targets set by the government can be achieved
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy for Environmental and Forestry Management Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment Nani Hendiarti highlighted that waste management is a shared responsibility among the government, private sector, and community.

"With good synergy, comprehensive plastic waste management, a suitable management ecosystem, and the active participation of all parties, we believe the targets set by the government can be achieved," Hendiarti stated here on Wednesday.

The government is targeting to reduce 70 percent of the plastic waste that enters the sea by 2025.

According to Hendiarti, good plastic waste management can also offer added value with a circular economy approach.

The circular economy is a new industry model that focuses on reducing, reusing, and recycling waste that leads to a reduction in the consumption of primary resources and the production of waste.

Hendiarti expressed hope that more people would partake in better waste management for the future of the environment.

"Behavioral change is an effort that we must maintain," she stressed.

She further noted that the government and other stakeholders continue to make efforts in a bid to promote sound waste management as well as take direct actions with the community.

The deputy emphasized that the government cannot move on its own and needs the collaboration of all parties to handle problems regarding waste, as good management can ensure that waste has economic value.

Circular economy can potentially contribute Rp569 trillion up to Rp638 trillion to the gross domestic product (GDP) in 2030.

By driving a circular economy that focuses on recycling waste, waste is no longer seen as a problem but can become a new sustainable economic resource.
