Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) cooperates with the United States' National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to strengthen the early warning system in Indonesia to anticipate the flow of climate change.

The collaboration comes in the form of observation and analysis to improve accuracy of weather and climate information in Indonesia. Moreover, workshop, seminar, symposium, and various other trainings are held to develop BMKG's human resources.

The BMKG and NOAA also organize the Indonesia Program Initiative on Maritime Observation and Analysis (Indonesia Prima) program, Head of BMKG Dwikorita Karnawati noted through a release on Saturday.

This program aims to improve the weather observation's density and forecast oceanic weather in the Indian Ocean, she stated during the Mini Symposium 17th Annual Indonesia – U.S BMKG – NOAA Partnership Workshop held virtually, Friday.

The cooperation is being coordinated by BMKG's official, Nelly Florida Riama.

Karnawati noted that the cooperation between BMKG and NOAA has been ongoing for quite some time and has been realized in various joint programs.

One of these programs revolves around sailing to the Indian Ocean to treat buoys and to measure the sea variable up to five thousand meters deep. This activity is organized annually.

This strategic partner is part of the BMKG's efforts to be able stand on equal ground along with other global climate centers, she explained.

This is important, given Indonesia's highly strategic position that allows it to play an important role in the monitoring of global climate and weather, she stated.

The result of measurement will then be analyzed together and presented in a scientific writing delivered during an international seminar.

During the event, Karnawati also highlighted the danger of Triple Dip La Niña.
