We are quite proud because it turns out that migrant workers from Indonesia are quite in demand not only in Korea but also in countries, such as Japan, the Middle East, and several European countries
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah highlighted that Indonesian migrant workers were highly sought after by some destination countries, so the government would ensure continued support for the placement of competent workers.

"We are quite proud because it turns out that migrant workers from Indonesia are quite in demand not only in Korea but also in countries, such as Japan, the Middle East, and several European countries," she noted in a statement on Monday.

While accompanying President Joko Widodo during the dispatch of migrant workers to South Korea at an event in Jakarta on Monday, October 17, she drew attention to the high level of interest among countries for competent Indonesian workers.

Thus, the government continually strives to prepare skilled workers and ensure that the migrants' placements were done in accordance with the procedures.

"We will place those who have competence. We hone their skills and competencies, and we make sure that their placement is conducted in accordance with procedures," Minister Fauziyah added.

On the same occasion, President Joko Widodo expressed happiness, as 597 migrant workers, who would be dispatched to South Korea under the intergovernmental cooperation scheme (G to G), had been briefed and educated.

President Jokowi said that currently, the number of migrant workers working overseas had reached nine million people. Of that figure, around 4.5 million migrant workers had departed illegally, or not through a predetermined procedure, while the rest were sent through legal channels.

To this end, the president ordered the relevant ministries and agencies to fight against syndicates that allowed illegal or non-procedural migrant worker placements and to make efforts to protect Indonesian workers.
