Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has said that synergy between the state and the private sector could accelerate the transition from carbon-emitting energy to sustainable energy.

"Countries with private support can accelerate energy sustainability by shifting to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy systems," Head of the BRIN’s Energy Research and Manufacturing Organization Haznan Abimanyu said at the “Indonesia-Korea Net-Zero Climate Technology Cooperation Forum 2022” in Jakarta on Monday.

The state, as the public sector, and the industry, as the private sector, are important actors in the implementation of energy sustainability, he noted.

Efforts to achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs) related to affordable and clean energy require a synergy of planning policies and support from various stakeholders, including the government, the private sector, and the community, he said.

According to Abimanyu, in the midst of the global crisis and the climate crisis that is growing increasingly worrying, a transition from an extractive economy to an environmentally friendly and sustainable green economy is necessary. This is in line with one of the main sustainable development goals, namely affordable and clean energy.

He said that lack of access to energy will have an impact in the form of a decline in the welfare and quality of life of the community as well as slow down development.

BRIN, in collaboration with the Green Technology Center of Korea, organized the bilateral cooperation forum on “Indonesia-Korea Net-Zero Climate Technology Cooperation Forum 2022” for supporting the acceleration of the transition to sustainable energy.

The forum aims to discuss sustainable industry and regional policies, strategies, best practices, potential cooperation programs or projects, and feedback and development of concept notes on the Net-Zero Climate Technology Cooperation between Indonesia and Korea.

The Green Technology Center is a think tank funded by the Korean government to coordinate and support national green technology research and development policies in collaboration with various Korean ministries and agencies, Abimanyu informed.

Meanwhile, Head of the Research Center for Sustainable Production Systems and Life Cycle Assessment at BRIN Nugroho Adi Sasongko said that through the cooperation forum, Indonesia has the opportunity to encourage the world's collective efforts for realizing policies to accelerate inclusive global economic recovery and sustainable energy transition.

Indonesia also has the opportunity to show its full support for the global energy transition through research and innovation strategies as well as project collaboration on supporting sustainable industry and regional development.

"Inputs and support are expected from all parties in order to create synergies and for the successful implementation of positive and sustainable cooperation for Indonesia and Korea," Sasongko said.
