Innovative ventilator products were created to support national independence in facing the threat of the COVID-19 pandemicJakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Industry confirmed that national medical device products were ready to enter the global market through participation in the prestigious international exhibition of the 2022 Industrial Transformation Asia Pacific (ITAP).
"We should be proud that Indonesia has been able to produce medical devices, such as high-end ventilators and emergency ventilators, that could compete with global products," the ministry's Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronics (ILMATE) Taufiek Bawazier noted in a statement in Tangerang, Banten Province, Friday.
Currently, ventilators made in Indonesia have received circulation permits from the Health Ministry. Moreover, the Industry Ministry, along with the Association of Indonesian Medical Device Manufacturers (ASPAKI), facilitated the participation of several national medical device industries at the exhibition held at the Singapore Expo on October 18-20, 2022, in order to promote and explore potential cooperation and investment, he affirmed.

At the 2022 ITAP 2022, several national medical device industry players -- PT Oneject Indonesia, which produces syringes; and the innovative ventilator product of PT Swayasa Prakarsa, PT YPTI, PT Stechoq, and Gajah Mada University -- presented their products.
"Innovative ventilator products were created to support national independence in facing the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic," Bawazier remarked.
Bawazier affirmed that domestic ventilators would strengthen the position of the national medical device industry to compete with global products. Moreover, the medical device industry was one of the sectors in the development priorities based on the Making Indonesia 4.0 roadmap.
“Demand for medical devices during the pandemic experienced a significant increase, while other commodities experienced a decline. This condition must be maximized by the domestic medical device industry to develop domestic and global markets,” Bawazier remarked.
Meanwhile, the ministry's Acting Director of the Machinery and Agricultural Machinery Industry M. Arifin stated that the Making Indonesia 4.0 initiative aimed at boosting the productivity and efficiency of the medical device industry in Indonesia that was targeted to become one of the main driving forces for the national economy.

“The government has a role in increasing the competitiveness of the medical device industry, especially in terms of Research and Development (R&D), manufacturing, marketing, and certification. In terms of manufacturing, the government is striving to improve the competitiveness of the industry in the Quality, Cost, and Delivery (QCD) sector," Arifin remarked.
In addition, II Chairperson of ASPAKI, Febie Yuriza Poetri, said her side continued to promote various domestic medical device products at various exhibition events, including the 2022 ITAP exhibition.
"Our participation in this exhibition cannot be separated from the support of the government in this regard, the Ministry of Industry, and the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore," she remarked.
She noted that ASPAKI currently oversees 182 companies and is ready to support the Indonesian government in achieving domestic medical device resilience and expanding the export markets.
“The health sector is one of the sectors receiving priority from the government, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Reflecting on Indonesia's experience in tackling the health crisis due to the pandemic, we see how important it is to accelerate the growth of the domestic medical device industry," she added.
