G20 is a multilateral cooperation group comprising 19 countries and the European Union (EU). Indonesia is holding the grouping's presidency this year. This year's G20 Summit will be held on November 15-16 in Bali.
"G20 is committed to pushing research and manufacture centers currently concentrated in the northern hemisphere countries, toward southern hemisphere countries," she noted during an online press conference in the Road To 2nd HMM network, Friday.
From the total 19 G20 member countries, seven have expressed interest to collaborate to distribute access to research and manufacture centers globally, she remarked.
These seven countries comprise Argentina, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and South Africa.
According to Tarmizi, G20 is committed to expanding the manufacturing network and research cooperation through the formation of a broader vaccine and medicine hub, especially toward countries in the southern hemisphere.
Vaccine and diagnostic tool access should be distributed to low-income countries, she stated.
Moreover, independence should be realized for middle-income countries, such as Indonesia, so that they can participate in strengthening health resilience at the global level, she added.
The final agreement related to the equitable distribution of global pharmaceutical research and manufacture centers will be brought up during the 2nd Health Ministers Meeting (HMM) on October 27-28, 2022, in Bali, she noted.
Tarmizi expects that the forum can encourage other countries to contribute in the efforts to expand global health access.
Moreover, she remarked that the 2nd Health Ministers Meeting will finalize all agreements related to the global health architecture idea.
