Jakarta (ANTARA) - The distribution of set-top box (STB) assistance in the Greater Jakarta (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi) area has reached 98.44 percent ahead of the analogue television broadcast switch-off (ASO) on November 2, 2022.

"The government has provided 359,617 set-top boxes, while all multiplexing (MUX) operators have prepared 112,484 (STBs),” Communication and Information Minister Johnny G. Plate informed at a press conference on ASO here on Monday.

He said that his ministry, the Indonesian Private Television Association (TVSI), and MUX operators have agreed to collaborate for the implementation of ASO in the Greater Jakarta area on November 2.

In addition to distributing the STB assistance uniformly, they have agreed to conduct massive socialization on ASO among the public so that the implementation of ASO runs well.

"For (the implementation of) ASO in the Greater Jakarta area, the government has also readied a post for disadvantaged families who have not received any set-top box, thus they can be assisted by the Communication and Information Ministry as well as possible," the minister added.

In addition, his ministry has appealed to all middle-class families who are still using non-digital television to immediately install a set-top box in order to enjoy digital broadcasts from November 2.

He informed that the ASO has been implemented in 8 districts/cities in 4 broadcast areas out of 514 districts/cities across Indonesia since April 2022.

Furthermore, after the ASO is carried out in the 9 districts/cities in the Greater Jakarta area in November, it will be conducted in 173 districts/cities that have no terrestrial TV service.

“Thus, there are still 292 districts/cities whose analogue switch-off implementation will be carried out according to the readiness of each region," Plate said.

He added that on November 2, all MUX infrastructure will be made available, both those prepared by MUX operators, namely licensed private television broadcasters, as well as those prepared by the government through the Communication and Information Ministry and state-owned television broadcaster TVRI.
