Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia has proposed the name "Forum for World Consultative Assembly" for the international conference of people's consultative assemblies, which is being held in Bandung, West Java, from October 24–26, 2022.

"For the name of this forum, and in accordance with the big vision that we think about together, if the leaders agree, the MPR RI proposes the name ‘Forum for World Consultative Assembly,’" Speaker of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) Bambang Soesatyo said while opening the congress at Gedung Merdeka, Bandung, on Tuesday.

Indonesia is hosting an international conference called the "People's Consultative Assembly, Syuro Assembly, or Other Similar Names" of the parliaments of members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Representatives of people's consultative assemblies of 15 countries are attending the conference in Bandung: Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Egypt, Pakistan, Palestine, Malaysia, Algeria, Bahrain, Mozambique, Yemen, Turkey, Iran, Iraq, and Jordan.

In addition, representatives of two international organizations, the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) and the Muslim World League, are also taking part in the congress.

According to Soesatyo, all parties hope that the forum will successfully strengthen existing forums at the levels of PUIC and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

Furthermore, he said he expects there will be an exchange of thoughts and ideas that strengthen the forum and result in a declaration.

In addition, the forum is expected to boost togetherness in pursuing a common life that is more peaceful, just, and prosperous, which will strengthen the realization of a global human life order that is harmonious, democratic, and civilized.

In addition to embodying the mandate of the 1945 Constitution in terms of actively playing a role in keeping global peace, the Forum for World Consultative Assembly would also strengthen Indonesia's leadership of the G20.
