Tangerang (ANTARA) - President of Partnerships in Environmental Management for The Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA) Network of Local Governments (PNLG) Le Quang Nam warned East Asian countries that climate change could lead to abrasion and threat of typhoons in the region.

Such a warning was conveyed by Le Quang Nam while delivering speech online at the PNLG Forum 2022 held at Tangerang district on Wednesday, according to a release posted by the Pemsea Network of Local Government (PNLG) on its official website.

Le Quang Nam, an expert in the field of climate change mitigation, said that abrasion and the emergence of typhoons are always caused by environmental damages due to human behavior.

"We who live on the coast also must understand what is happening right now," he said during his speech at the Forum entitled "Strengthening Coastal Resilience towards Sustainable Local Blue Economies".

In the Forum, Le Quang also discussed about some other dangerous impacts of climate change in the long term.

Le Quang said that, as a person living in Vietnam's coastal city of Da Nang, he is well aware of the impact of climate change.

As a result of climate change, typhoons are often encountered and increased erosion on the coast of Da Nang, he pointed out.

Therefore, he said, Vietnam cooperates with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in mitigating the climate change impacts in the city.

"We are also making shelters that are useful for survival during the increase of typhoons," he said.

In addition, Le Quang together with some partner organizations conducts research on the climate change impacts to the coast.

"This is done in order to provide a good defense (strategy) for the region from the impact of climate change," he stated.
