Jakarta (ANTARA) - International tourist arrivals through the main entry gates of Indonesia reached 538,320 in September 2022, up 10,768.46 percent compared to the figure recorded in September 2021, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) has reported.



Compared to August 2022, the number of tourist arrivals in September showed an increase of 5.50 percent.



"International tourist arrivals in September 2022 continued to rise since January 2022. In September 2022, the international tourist arrivals reached 538,320 tourists," the deputy for distribution and service statistics at BPS, Setianto, informed here on Tuesday.

According to him, two entry gates accounted for the most international tourist arrivals—Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali.



At Ngurah Rai Airport, the largest number of tourist arrivals were from Australia, India, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, and the United States. They used the visa-on-arrival scheme for 30 days.



"Then, for the entry gate of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Jakarta, most of them (tourists) came from Malaysia, Singapore, China, South Korea, Japan, and India," Setianto added.



The number of international tourist arrivals in the January–September 2022 period surpassed 2 million, up 2 thousand percent compared to the year-ago period. In the period from January to September 2021, Indonesia only recorded 86,245 international tourist arrivals.

Based on the nationalities of the tourists, most of the international tourists who visited Indonesia in September 2022 were from Australia, Setianto said.



The three countries that contributed the most to the number of international tourist arrivals in September were Australia, Singapore, and Malaysia.

Earlier, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno had said that the government is focusing on improving tourism quality with the aim of increasing the length of stay, income, and tourist experience.



In addition, he informed that the government has continued to intensify promotions and attract quality tourists from targeted countries such as the UK, France, Russia, the Netherlands, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, China, Japan, South Korea, India, and Australia.
