"All that were audited were 21 stadiums, one of which was Kanjuruhan Malang Stadium. We will renovate it, now it is being designed. Hopefully, we can auction it in December," Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said in Solo, Central Java, on Friday.
At Kanjuruhan Stadium, the focus was on the doors.
“So, if people go down the stairs, there is no space for the door. As soon as people go down the stairs, the door is right there," he explained.
He said that the renovation of stadiums which draw a large number of spectators will be prioritized. His ministry has currently dispatched three teams from the building reliability committee to conduct an evaluation.
"Maybe in two–three weeks they will report, which ones have to be arranged, which ones meet (the standard), which ones don't, what we have to do," he elaborated.
One of the stadiums—the Manahan Solo Stadium—has been renovated, and thus, no longer needs an audit.
One of the focuses of the renovation will be the audience seating.
“Nowadays, there are still many who sit in parallel, not single seats. We will replace this with single seats, it is safer," Hadimuljono said.
Further, indicators will be placed at the audience entrance, just like at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (GBK), he pointed out.
"At GBK, in 15 minutes 60 thousand people have to get out safely. That was when we renovated GBK at the time for the ASEAN Games, such was the indicator. So, we had to add brakes, add doors, add lifts. There are experts in the committee on building reliability (who can provide guidance on this aspect),” he added.
