If the result of the stunting audit found a frequent diarrhea case, then it must be traced whether only one family experienced it or other families in the neighborhood experienced it as well
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) Hasto Wardoyo urged the entire Stunting Reduction Acceleration Team (TPPS) to conduct an audit of stunting cases at the family level.

"If the result of the stunting audit found a frequent diarrhea case, then it must be traced whether only one family experienced it or other families in the neighborhood experienced it as well. The environment may cause diarrhea, so we recommend to fix the latrine," he stated here, Friday.

Wardoyo remarked that audits of stunting cases conducted at the family level could help the government to find other factors that cause stunting in children in greater depth.

By finding the hidden factors, the experts involved, such as pediatricians and nutritionists, can work to collect data and provide recommendations for special treatment to alleviate the problem of stunting in the family, he remarked.

Wardoyo noted that stunting case audits can also map stunting events in an area. Systematic surveillance or observation through collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and disseminating information on stunting problems can be conducted in that area.

According to Wardoyo, the audit of stunting cases is conducted by practitioners, professionals, experts, consultants, and others on a case basis.

Through the audit of stunting cases, some misunderstandings in cases, such as children with Down syndrome included in the category of stunted children, can be rectified, especially in the family.

"Stunting means that the baby is born with normal potential with no genetic abnormality, but due to several factors in the first 1,000 days of life, the baby eventually fails to grow physically and intellectually," Wardoyo explained.

Thus, he requested that each record of the results of the audit of stunting cases to not be disclosed to the public due to the code of ethics and family privacy. He also expressed optimism that stunting audit activities would also run consistently.

"Some cases found in the stunting audit can become a lesson in the future. The case maps in one region can be described in the form of surveillance," he added.
