Nusa Dua, Bail (ANTARA) - The Indonesian G20 Presidency has the potential to support the development of local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the Communication and Information (Kominfo) Ministry has said.

"We are giving souvenirs to delegations and we asked MSMEs to make them," Director General of Public Information and Communication at the ministry Usman Kansong told ANTARA during a special interview here on Saturday.

G20 is a multilateral cooperation group that comprises 19 countries and the European Union (EU). Indonesia, which is holding the presidency of the grouping this year, will host the G20 Summit in Bali this month.

The Cooperatives and SMEs Ministry, during the middle of the year, announced that there are 20 SMEs that have become suppliers of official souvenirs for G20 delegations.

The selection of SMEs for supplying souvenirs is a part of the government's commitment to promote Indonesia's potential and local wisdom among partner countries.

There are two types of Indonesian MSMEs products, namely food and handicraft, which are capable of claiming a strong market share on the international stage.

Thus, herbal tea products from West Nusa Tenggara, created from moringa leaves, and vegetable fruit juice from Bali have been chosen as official souvenirs for delegates participating in the G20 Summit.

Meanwhile, the handicraft souvenirs are in the form of wooden binders from East Java, Bali ethnic bags, wayang placards from Central Java, wooden wristwatches from West Java, and wooden radios from West Java.

The Cooperatives and SMEs Ministry has estimated that the G20 event will create 33 thousand jobs and will result in a consumption value of Rp1.7 trillion.

Kansong said that the economic potential for MSMEs will not stop at the G20 Summit. Upon seeing the potential that Indonesia has, delegates may become interested in traveling to Indonesia again for tourism.

The Kominfo Ministry is also using the G20 event to introduce digital technology at MSMEs, namely digital payments using the QRIS code.

The government has also organized the “Future SMEs Village” exhibition in Nusa Dua, which is featuring products from 300 SMEs in Indonesia, from November 10 to November 19.
