Jakarta (ANTARA) - Women 20 (W20) Indonesia has expressed the hope that the four main issues related to women's empowerment that were pursued during Indonesia’s G20 Presidency will be taken up during India’s presidency of the grouping next year.

"These issues encompass rejecting discrimination and encouraging gender equality, women-owned MSMEs (micro, small, and medium enterprises),” Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Bintang Puspayoga said in a W20 Post-Summit release on Monday.

They also include the health response issue that prioritizes gender equality, rural women, and disabled women.

The W20 is one of the engagement groups within Indonesia's G20 Presidency that forms a women's empowerment network to encourage the adoption of G20 commitments regarding women's issues.

G20 is a multilateral cooperation group that comprises 19 countries and the European Union (EU). Indonesia, which is holding the presidency of the grouping this year, will host the G20 Summit in Bali on November 15 and 16, 2022.

For tackling the first and second issues, the W20 has emphasized promoting equality, security, and prosperity by eliminating discriminative policies, Puspayoga informed.

Further, it has outlined ways to achieve economic inclusion by offering support to women-owned MSMEs and highlighted the importance of using intersectionality to expedite women's empowerment.

Meanwhile, for the third and four issues, W20 Indonesia has stressed health response for marginal women, specifically those who reside in villages and have disabilities.

In relation to these issues, W20 Indonesia has illustrated how global challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic disproportionately affect women.

The pandemic has significantly affected women's health, family, and services for women victims of gender-based violence, Minister Puspayoga pointed out.

In addition, the W20 has also highlighted gender equity-based health response.

The W20 Post Summit held on November 13–14 in Nusa Dua, Bali, was the last meeting of the engagement group in Indonesia.

It marked the end of W20 Indonesia this year along with the end of Indonesia's Presidency of the G20.

India will hold the presidency of the G20 and lead the W20 next year.
