Jakarta (ANTARA) - The COVID-19 pandemic has provided an impetus to the government to carry out transformation in the health sector, government spokesperson for COVID-19 Reisa Broto Asmoro said here on Monday.

"This pandemic is a momentum for the government to transform the country's health system. The Health Ministry is currently carrying out the health transformation whose focus is on six pillars," Asmoro added.

She said that the six health transformations cover primary services, referral services, health security system, health financing system, health human resources, and health technology.

The health transformation has been inspired by the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has claimed many lives and whose handling has involved a lot of state financing, she informed.

The pandemic has also shown that the quality of Indonesia's health system must be improved by increasing the capacity of health workers, the types of services, and the availability of medical devices.

In transforming primary services, the government is striving to realize accessible basic health services by prioritizing preventive efforts and promoting health awareness.

Under the second pillar, the government is developing a referral service network for handling catastrophic diseases, such as stroke, cancer, heart, and kidney disorders, which contribute the highest to the mortality rate.

Under the third pillar, the government is seeking to realize a secure health system by accelerating pharmaceutical resilience and providing medical devices that can be produced domestically.

Meanwhile, to realize the fourth pillar, the Ministry of Health is working to ensure the just, effective, and efficient use of all funds spent by the public on treatment.

Under the fifth pillar, the government is targeting to realize uniform distribution of health services across the country by enhancing the quality and quantity of health workers.

Furthermore, as part of the sixth pillar, the government will form an integrated health system, named One Health (Satu Sehat), so that the data of all patients can be integrated.
