From the assessment, children (victims) do need social support services for trauma recovery
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Social Affairs Ministry has dispatched a psychosocial support team to assist students of an elementary school in Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta, whose roof collapsed on November 8, 2022.

"From the assessment, children (victims) do need social support services for trauma recovery. From the Antasena rehabilitation and social protection center, we sent social workers and social counseling workers to conduct recreational activities so that children can momentarily forget about the traumatic event," head of the Antasena Center, Mas Kahono Agung, informed here on Wednesday.

The Social Affairs Ministry, through the Antasena Center in Magelang, Central Java, is assisting some students who are still reluctant to return to school after witnessing their friends struck by the collapsing roof.

The devastating incident claimed the life of one student and left others, including parents, traumatized.

On Monday (November 14), Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, and Director of Social Protection for Victims of Social and Non-natural Disasters at the Ministry of Social Affairs, Mira Riyati Kurniasih, visited the school, which is located on Manthous KM 2 Street, Playen, Gunung Kidul district, Yogyakarta.

Kurniasih also provided compensation to the heir of the deceased and the injured victims.

"After the incident, we were immediately instructed by the Social Affairs Minister to provide compensation and on November 11, we finished handing them out. For the (family of the) deceased, we handed over compensation of Rp15 million, directly to the funeral house. Meanwhile, Rp2.5 million (was provided) for each of the injured," she informed.

In addition, the ministry also disbursed assistance worth Rp100 million for the repair of the school’s roof. The assistance was symbolically handed over by Minister Effendy to the school’s representatives. Each victim also received a package of essential goods.

The roof of the elementary school SD Muhammadiyah 3 Bogor Playen collapsed on November 8 while classes were on. One child died and 11 others were injured in the incident.
