The growth of Lampung's local MSMEs that have quality products and competitiveness will improve not only the economy but also have an impact on the improvement of life quality and welfare of the society, especially women.
Bandarlampung, Lampung (ANTARA) - The government of Lampung province has said that it will maximize the role of women-run micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the province to improve the economy.

"MSMEs significantly contribute to the economic sector because almost 97 percent of workers are absorbed (by MSMEs) and (they) contribute 61 percent to the national GDP (gross domestic product) every year," head of the Regional Development Planning Agency of Lampung province, Mulyadi Irsan, said here on Wednesday.

Increasing the role of MSMEs is one of the efforts to maximize economic growth in the province, he added.

"MSMEs can become saviors if they are maximized properly, especially women-run MSMEs, so that the regional government will encourage this," he said.

One of the efforts to optimize the role of women-run MSMEs so they continue to grow is providing training to improve their competitiveness, he informed.

"Women-run MSMEs cannot be underestimated, so we continue to provide training and assistance to optimize competitiveness from the product to marketing perspectives," he added.

He expressed the hope that Lampung's economic growth will occur inclusively with the improvement in MSME competitiveness through assistance.

"The growth of Lampung's local MSMEs that have quality products and competitiveness will improve not only the economy but also have an impact on the improvement of life quality and welfare of the society, especially women," he said.

Earlier, Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Minister Teten Masduki had said that women-run MSMEs are strategic drivers of national economic development since they dominate MSMEs in Indonesia.

"The great dominance of women, as MSME players, and the great enthusiasm of women to gather in cooperatives show that women can be equal to men to participate in advancing the nation's and state's economy," the minister remarked.
