Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) is trying to expedite the transfers of Jordi Amat and Sandy Walsh to PSSI so that they can participate in the 2022 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Cup.

"We will write to FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) about the changes in the federation (of Amat and Walsh). Hopefully, all processes will be completed quickly," the chairperson of PSSI, Mochamad Iriawan, said at the Jakarta Regional Office of the Law and Human Rights Ministry here on Thursday.

Walsh and Amat, who recently became Indonesian citizens after taking the oath of citizenship at the office, still need to complete the transfer from their soccer federations, the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), respectively, in order to play for the Indonesian national team.

However, PSSI has not been able to confirm how long the process will take.

"Please be patient because all processes must be completed (first)," the PSSI chairperson said.

Still, it has been assured that the Indonesian national team will include them in the list of no more than 70 players for the AFF Cup, which needs to be conveyed to the AFF no later than November 20, 2022.

Amat, 30, and Walsh, 27, have had long careers as defenders in European leagues.

Amat, who has Indonesian ancestry through one of his grandmothers, has played for Spanish clubs Espanyol and Real Betis as well as the English club Swansea City. Currently, he is playing in the Malaysian Super League for Johor Darul Ta'zim.

Meanwhile, Walsh, whose mother is of Indonesian descent, has always played for Belgian clubs. He is currently playing for K.V. Mechelen.

The 2022 AFF Cup will be held from December 20, 2022, to January 16, 2023. PSSI is aiming for winning the tournament.
