The tourism sector is important in several areas, such as Bali, since it drives the local economy.Badung, Bali (ANTARA) - Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI), Dody Budi Waluyo, on Friday launched two books compiling information on studies conducted on the development of the manufacturing and tourism industries amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We present a book on strengthening Indonesia's economic structure, especially the manufacturing sector, and another book on BI’s studies on the tourism sector. The tourism sector is important in several areas, such as Bali, since it drives the local economy," he said here.
The books contain complete studies conducted by BI in collaboration with several ministries to assess Indonesia’s economic opportunities, he informed.
He said that BI has to review various current economic problems to formulate the best strategic policies, minimize economic disadvantages, and determine the next steps to advance the national economy.
The first book focuses on studies on the strengthening of the national economic structure through the transformation of the manufacturing industry.
The book describes the performance and prospects of the sector, its recovery in the midst of the pandemic, as well as recommendations for collaboratively bolstering the values of the industry.

Meanwhile, the second book discusses the development of the national tourism industry since the start of the pandemic in the country in early 2020, attempts to revive the sector, as well as collaborations carried out by the Joint Secretariat for the Acceleration of Tourism Development to advance the industry.
"The book also provides suggestions for strengthening the development of national tourism in the midst of the rising new opportunities," the BI deputy governor informed.
He said that the studies are only an early assessment of the potential of Indonesia’s future economic development.
“Hopefully, these two books can become an input for all stakeholders, including local governments, (business) associations, industry players, as well as policy makers," he added.
He then pointed to the problem regarding the high utilization of imported components in the manufacturing sector and said that he expects the import substitution program to be strengthened in the future, including by optimizing the use of components produced by domestic natural resource mining industries.
