Central Lombok, W Nusa Tenggar (ANTARA) - Some 120 bodybuilders, countrywide and overseas, are participating in the WFF World Indonesia bodybuilding competition scheduled at the Mandalika Special Economic Zone, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on November 19-20, 2022.

"Some 70 athletes from abroad are participating, and the rest, 50 people, are from Indonesia," Chairperson of the Indonesian Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (PBFI) Kemalsyah Nasution stated here on Saturday.

Some 120 male and female bodybuilders contesting in the WFF World Indonesia came from 18 countries, including Indonesia, as the host.

Nasution noted that out of the 120 participants, Dody Syahputra, an Indonesian bodybuilder, is a world champion.

Meanwhile, this WFF bodybuilding championship features 47 categories.

"There are 47 bodybuilding categories. There is the amateur class held this Saturday and the professional class on Sunday evening (Nov 20)," the PBFI chairperson remarked.

According to Nasution, the WFF World Indonesia bodybuilding contest is the first of its kind to be held in Indonesia.

“This is the first world bodybuilding contest to be held in Indonesia, and Mandalika, Lombok, as the location of its activities. Why Mandalika? (It is) because this place is currently booming as a sports tourism destination in Indonesia," he explained.

Nasution said that WFF World Indonesia's activities received full support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Provincial Government, and some sports associations.

“To enliven this bodybuilding contest, we hold a parade of athletes and the Festival of Kites. The goal is how to promote this sport to the people of Indonesia, especially NTB," he noted.

Some of the categories being competed in the WFF World Championships Indonesia are bodybuilding, women sport model, men sport model, bikini model, and jeans model, among several others.
