During the Yasonna Hears event here, Monday, he expressed concern that people or entrepreneurs, who do not care or understand intellectual property, will encounter legal troubles with other parties.
This concern is not without reason owing to cases, such as that revolving around PS Glow and MS Glow beauty products that had to be resolved in court.
Moreover, a similar case involving the trademark Gen Halilintar also came to light some time ago.
Reflecting on these two cases, Laoly has continued to remind people to not neglect registering the intellectual property that they have.
By giving intellectual property to the produced products, people can increase their economic value, he added.
During the event, the minister also reminded Indonesians to prioritize innovation and creation rather than rely on natural resources to create an intellectual property.
"Natural resources are important, but they can run out if we keep using them," he cautioned.
Several countries in the world do not have or have limited amount of natural resources but can become developed in various sectors, especially the economy, he highlighted.
These countries can develop, as they do not rely on natural resources but on creating innovation and creativity, so they produce goods that can be used by the general public, he noted.
"This intellectual property is closely related to human creativity," he stated.
Laoly also noted that citizens, including entrepreneurs, should be ready to face the industrial revolution 5.0 in the future.
